Sapphire Parure made for Princess Alicia of Borbón Parma by Chaumet Paris | Spain Royal Family
Both parures of the family, sapphire and ruby, were created by Chaumet with stones from the estate of Queen Maria Cristina of Habsburg-Loraine, born in Vienna 1858, daughter of Archduke Charles Ferdinand of Austria and Archduchess Isabel of Austria-Este-Modena, married to King Alfonso XII in Madrid, November 29, 1879. Alfonso died of tuberculosis in 1881.

Maria de las Mercedes, Princess of Asturias, the daughter of Maria Cristina and King Alfonso XII.
Don Alfonso de Borbon dos Sicilias, Infante of Spain, son of Maria de las Mercedes, he inherited the gems from his grandmother and godmother and commissioned this suite from the House of Chaumet, to redesign the Jewels in the art deco fashion.The sketch of Chaumet was made for the parure consist:

Safir Diamant Garnitur mit Diadem der spanischen Familie Bourbon Parma, gefertigt von Chaumet im Stil des Art Deco, aus Saphiren und Diamanten aus dem Nachlass der Königin Maria Cristina.
Königin Maria Cristina, Gemahlin von König Alfonso XII von Spanien vermachte ihren Saphir Schmuck ihrer Tochter Prinzessin Maria de las Mercedes von Asturien. Sie vermachte die Schmuckstücke ihrem Sohn, Don Alfonso von Bourbon- Sizilien-Sizilien, Infant von Spanien.
Als Don Alfonso de Borbon dos Sicilias, Infante von Spanien, diese Juwelen von seiner Grossmutter und Patin bekam, liess er sie im Stil des Art Deco 1930, für seine Braut, Prinzessin Alice von Parma, aus Platin neu arbeiten.
Da der Thronfolger Alfons XIII. erst nach dem Tod seines Vaters geboren wurde, wirkte Maria Christina Désirée Henriette Felicitas Rainiera von Habsburg-Lothringen, Königin von Spanien vom Tod ihres Mannes am 25. November 1885, er starb an Tuberkulose bis zur Geburt ihres Sohnes Alfons am 17. Mai 1886 als Regentin von Spanien. Sie blieb Regentin auch nach der Proklamation ihres Neugeborenen als König Alfons XIII
