Aus der Mitgift ihrer Mutter dürften diese Smaragde stammen, denn
die Aussteuer der russischen Grossfürstin der Tochter des Zaren
Alexander II. bestand aus fünf Paruren, eine mit Diamanten, eine
mit Perlen, eine mit Rubinen besetzt, eine mit Saphiren und sowie eine
mit Smaragden.
Ana Sagera´s einzige Erwähnung in ihrem Buch, zu den Hochzeitsgeschenken,
ist das Smaragd Diadem und Collier, das die Herzogin von Coburg ihrer
Tochter vor dem Dinner am Hochzeitstag überreichte. Beatrice legte
den Schmuck gleich unmittelbar dananach das erste Mal an.
Die Diamanten, Perlen, Saphiren und Rubinparuren sind bekannt, die
Garnitur mit Smaragden jedoch schlummerte wohl lange im Tresor, vielleicht
mochte Marie Alexandrowna keine Smaragde....man weiss es nicht.
Dieses Diadem könnte ein Teil diese Smaragdschmucks sein. Die
Prinzessin erhielt von Ihrer Mutter das Diamant Diadem und dazu trug
sie ausserordentlich grosse Smaragde.
Der Schmuck wurde ganz gewiss nach Farben unter den Töchtern aufgeteilt,
- wir wissen von der Garnitur von Ducky (Saphire), Sandra (Rubine),
Missy (Perlen) und vielleicht sind die Smaragde nun an Beatrice übergegangen.
The only mention in Anna Sagrera´s book 'Ena y Bee. En defensa
de una amistad' of the wedding gifts refers to an emerald diadem and
necklace given by the Duchess of Coburg to her daughter before the dinner
on the wedding day. She wore them for the first time only moments later.
These emeralds might have come from the dowry of her mother, because
the trousseau of the Russian grand duchess, daughter of Czar Alexander
II consisted of five parures: diamonds, pearls, rubies, sapphires and
emeralds.
The diamond, pearl, sapphire and ruby parures are well-known. Nevertheless,
the set with the emeralds probably slumbered long in a safe deposit
box; perhaps Marie Alexandrovna did not like emeralds. One does not
know.
This diadem could be a part of this emerald jewellery. The princess
received from her mother the diamond fringe tiara and in addition she
wore exceptionally big emeralds.
The Grand Duchess’s jewellery was split by colour amongst the
daughters. We know about the parures which went to Ducky (sapphires),
Sandra (rubies), Missy (pearls) and perhaps the emeralds went to Beatrice.
Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice Leopoldine Victoria was born on
Easter Sunday, 1884--the youngest of the four dangerously beautiful
daughters of the Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Victoria´s second son.
He had married the only daughter of the Emperor Alexander II ten years
earlier. The Princess, known in the family as " Baby Bee",
was born at Eastwell Park, Kent, a large country house.
