Romanov Rubine der Grossfürstin Marie Alexandrowna

Die Tochter des Zaren Alexander II., Grossfürstin Marie Alexandrowna von Russland (1853-1920) heiratete 23. Januar 1874 den 2. Sohn von Queen Victoria von England.

Diese Imperial-Royale Verbindung stand von Anfang an unter keinem guten Stern und es sollte sechs Jahre dauern, bis sie überhaupt zustande kam. Maria war die einzige überlebende Tochter des russischen Zaren Alexander II. und der Zarin Marie und sein Liebling. Enstprechend grosszügig fiehl deshalb die Mitgift und Ausstattung der Grossfürstin aus.
Fürsorglich hatte er für ihre finanzielle Unabhängigkeit ein Vermögen von 20.000.000 Pfund bei einer Bank in England angelegt, damit die spätere Herzogin von Edinburgh und Herzogin von Sachsen Coburg Gotha standesgemäss leben konnte.
Schmuck und Juwelen vom Feinsten, entsprechend einer Zarentochter das Beste vom Besten somit war die Pracht und Üppigkeit ihrer Juwelen-Collection spektakulär.

Ein Prunktstück aus diesen Geschenken ihres Vaters war die Rubin Parure, gefertigt vom Hofjuwelier Bolin, der ein Diadem mit blutroten burmesischen Rubinen in Form von sechs stilisierten Lotusblättern entwarf, die Bögen und Ranken zwischen den Blüten war sehr üppig mit kissenförmigen grossen Diamanten besetzt, die Stiele und Schnörkel mit Altschliffdiamanten ausgefasst, das ganze in Gold und Silber.

Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrowna of Russia, daughter of the Tsar Alexander II of Russia, married the Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Saxe Coburg Gotha, son of Queen Victoria.

The Romanovs were believed to be superstitous about the blood-red colour of rubies, evidently Tsar Alexander II had none of these reservations. He gave this suite to his favourite child an only daughter, a monumental tiara in the form of stylized lotus flowers centred with the finest Burmes rubies, made by the court jewellers, Bolin. Also part of the set is the magnificent russian ruby and diamond necklace, by Bolin. Designed as an alternating band of cushion-shaped rubies, old european and old mine-cut diamonds with diamond and pear-shaped ruby , all Burmese orgin,scrolled spacers on 46 cm.

Above the Grand Duchess at the coronation of the Tsar, wearing the necklace of the ruby-parure and the matching stomacher.

Princess Margarita of Hohenlohe Langenburg, born Princess of Greece and Danemark, in the 60th also wearing the parure of the famliy, Alexandra her mother-in-law get this jewels from her mother the Grand Duchess.
