Victoria Melita Grossherzogin von Hessen|Königliche Hochzeitsgeschenke Victoria Melita von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha (1876 -1936) war die Tochter des Prinzen Alfred von Großbritannien und Irland, dem Herzog von Edinburgh und Herzog von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha und daduch die Enkelin der englischen Königin Viktoria. Ihre Mutter war die Großfürstin Marie Alexandrowna von Russland und somit war sie auch die Enkelin des Zaren Alexander II. Victoria heiratete am 19.April 1894 ihren Cousin väterlicherseits, den zukünfigen Großherzog von Hessen und bei Rhein, Ernst Ludwig. Bei der Trauung schmückte sie der Schleier von Großherzogin Alice von Hessen, der Mutter des Bräutigams, zusammen mit einem ihrer Hochzeitsgeschenke, dem Smaragd-Diadem und ein Armband mit feinen Brillanten. Die Königin von England, - Großmutter der Braut und des Bräutigams, die höchstpersönlich der Trauung beiwohnte, trug selbst noch einmal ihren eigenen Hochzeitsschleier, eine sentimentale wie symbolische Geste. Oben im Bild das Hochzeitsfrühstück in Coburg mit der Königin Victoria, dem Brautpaar und der Familie. Es wird unter anderem in der Coburger Zeitung vom April 1894 ausführlich über die vielen Hochzeitsgeschenke berichtet. Der Großherzog von Hessen schenkte seiner Braut - ein Diamant Diadem, in Form eines Flügel-Paares, zentrierte über einem großen Diamant-Metallring, gestützt von einem "Amor Bogen" als Unterteil; die Flügel konnte man abnehmen und als Brosche tragen, gekauft bei Mr. J.W. Benson of Old Bond Street, London. - siehe oben - - eine Parure aus farbigen und weißen Diamanten bestehend aus Diadem, Halsschmuck und Brosche ( könnte, passend zur oberen Garnitur sein bzw ergänzend) Victoria Melita erhielt von ihren Eltern, dem Herzog und der Herzogin von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha - ein Armband mit großen Smaragden und Brillanten Zusätzlich übergab ihr Vater ihr noch - eine Halskette von Perlen und Smaragden und - ein Diamantherz mit großem Türkis und Brillanten, außerdem schenkte ihr ihre Mutter noch - ein Diadem mit Brillanten und Smaragden - einen großen Saphir-Anhänger mit Brillanten sowie - ein Paar große Brillantohrringe. April 1894 **** Princess Victoria Melita Grand Duchess of Hesse|Royal Wedding Gifts Jewel Present Queen Victoria Princess Victoria Melita of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1876-1936) was a member of the British Royal Family, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria. Princess Victoria held the titles of a Grand Duchess of Hesse (1894-1901), and the Grand Duchess Viktoria Feodorovna of Russia (1906-1917). Victoria married on April 19th 1894 her paternal cousin Ernst Ludwig, the future Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine. On the day of her wedding she wore the veil of Grand Duchess Alice of Hesse, the mother of the bridegroom, which was held by one of her wedding presents, a delicate diamond circlet with eight upright prongs, each set with a large emerald. Before their wedding the "Coburger Zeitung" published a list of most of the gifts which the princely couple received. The Grand Duke of Hesse's wedding presents to his bride included - an all diamond tiara, in the form of a pair of wings, centred above a large diamond collet, supported upon a "Cupid's bow" base; the wings detaching to form a brooch - see above - a parure set with coloured and white diamonds, consisting of a tiara, necklace and brooch (matching the Cupid´s bow??)
