Diamond Rose BroochesIn the picture below, the roses, elements of the orginal tiara, are
the rest of the existing diamond jewel. Queen Elizabeth wears it now
as brooches. The large one as a single one, the smaller as a pair.
About the definition CROWN JEWELS In the U.K. the term "Crown Jewels" refers to more than the regalia for the Coronation ( although generally it is what one thinks of first when hearing that term). For example, there is the tiara that the Queen wore at her wedding which dates from George III... and was also worn by Princess Anne at her first wedding. There are historic pieces from Queen Victoria (the Jubilee Necklace) and there are pieces from Queen Mary (especially those jewels given to her during the trip to India). Throughout the years, particularly early in her reign, the Queen has worn earrings and necklaces that are part of the Crown Jewels. But the majority of the Queen's jewelry are not "Crown Jewels" unless Her Majesty chooses to leave them to the Crown (which would be a good thing as it would leave the collection intact). The main portion of the Queens jewels were, as we all know, inheritance from Queen Mary or were gifts from the Queen's parents. Then of course there are the many gifts given to Queen Elizabeth from State Visits (the Arab states!), Commonwealth visits early in her reign, christening of ships, etc. These are all her personal possessions so naturally Her Majesty is free to leave them to whoever. It would be there will be pieces inherited by her children and grandchildren, and Camilla will do fine with a tiara or two. But the major part of the Queen's jewelry, so she, will be left to Prince William...for the use of his futue wife...and perhaps some of the major peices the Queen will leave to the Crown (the Teck Emeralds?), etc. One wonders how formal will the world be in the future...will William's wife wear all those brooches? Perhaps future generations will be gazing at these precious items under glass...to be worn no more.
