The Royal House explained the origins of Princess Mabel's diademe:
The bride's diademe is created from a large coronet diademe consisting of diamonds and sapphires, made in 1881 by the celebrated and still existing firm Mellerio dits Meller jouaillers in Paris.

The original coronet diademe is part of a large parure which was ordered by King Willem III of the Netherlands, Grand Duke of Luxembourg as a gift for Queen Emma born Princess of Waldeck and Pyrmont.

The Parure has an extra fitting monture to create another diademe. For the first time ever this second monture was used and mounted with diamonds for the wedding of Prince Friso and Princess Mabel. royal wedding dutch princess countess mabel wedding tiara royal wedding dutch princess countess mabel wedding tiara royal wedding dutch princess countess mabel wedding tiara

In the original frame of this Tiara diamonds have been placed especially for the occasion of the wedding of Johan Friso to Mabel. The now newly mounted tiara has never before been used for a Royal Wedding

So it is clear now that Oscar Masin created two tiaras for which the same stones could be used. According to Brus, the name of Vita Israel on one of the design drawings seems to have been written over another name that was removed nice glittering diademes royal wedding dutch princess countess mabel wedding tiara royal wedding dutch princess countess mabel wedding tiara

The second Tiara Frame....Wedding-Tiara of Princess Mabel

It took from 1881 until 2004 (123 years) for the second frame to be used for the first time. Orange-Bride Mabel had the premiere!
The 27 detachable brilliant-cut diamonds from the upper row of the big Saphire Tiara are put on 11 upstanding sticks on a sobre frame (amongst the 27 are 9 very big diamonds!) and because of their trembling springs on the back of their setting they give a very glittering sparkle!

So a History started in 1881 in Paris can get a happy ending in 2004 Delft! But lets hope the Tiara will be out again soon in its big or small setting with or without necklace and bracelets, earhangers, and broches that all tell their own story of past owners and their lives and their loves.
The Tiara is composed from the Large Saphire tiara that was made by Mellerio in 1881 (design is probarbly by the famous jewelery-designer Oscar Masin who also worked for the Paris jewelery-firm of Mellerio) on the request of King Willem III for his wife Queen Emma, born Princess zu Waldeck und Pyrmont.

The price in 1881 was 100.000 florins. The center saphire of 44 carat was not included in this price. The saphires were from the inheritance of queen Anna Pavlovna.
