Alice, Lady Lowther
Alice Blight, the daughter of Atherton Blight, weds on 28 February 1905.
Another Tie with America. The attachment of Mr. Gerard Lowther and Miss Alice Atherton Blight is quite an old story now, though the engagement was only announced just before Christmas.
Like many other brilliant and beautiful Americans Miss Blight's ambition was to marry a Britisher, from the ruling, class, and with this predilection to help him Mr. Lowther soon, tirade air-impression when they first met.
Miss Blight of New York. Miss Blight is one of three hand some sisters well known in the millionaire Mills-Astor circle in New York, and she has been two or three times to London, where she was received by the Queen and the Princess of Wales and was charmed with the fascinations of Ascot. She is rather tall, with dark eyes and hair, has a good figure, and knows how to dress. A few years ago she had a great grief by the loss of her mother. Her father is inclined to be bookish. He was quite wrapped up in eighteenth- century literature and used to give all his mornings to Oliver Goldsmith and his contemporaries. This atmosphere of culture in the home naturally'affected the training of his daughters, so that the future Mrs. Gerard Lowther is as cultivated as any Bostonian.
Miss Alice Atherton Blight, who is engaged to Mr. Gerard Lowther, the second son Of Mr. William Lowther, of Lowther Lodge, and the newlyappointed representative at the Court of the Emperor of Morocco, is a daughter of Mr. Atherton Biight, a New York millionaire of cultivated literary tastes, who has a strong leaning towards the old-fashioned customs and courtesy of the "good old times." She is one of three handsome sisters, the eldest of shorn is Mrs. William Payne Thomsom, a leader of New York huihionahle society. Miss Blight is tall and graceful, with dark hair and eyed, and with these attractions she created a sensation when she was over here in 1909., and was especially noticed in the Royal Eaclosure at Ascot.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a white satin and brocade dress with yoke and sleeves of Brussels lace, and a cream tulle veil with a Brussels lace border. She carried a bouquet composed by the headgardener at Campsea Ashe.
and was attended by her sister, Miss Evelyn Blight, who wore pink chiffon with a fichu edged with pink lace and fastened with large roses, a silver belt, and a large pink hat.
The bridegroom's was supported by his brother, Mr. Harold Lowther, as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at Lowther Lodge by the Hon. William and Mrs. Lowther, parents of the bridegroom, and later in the day the bride and bridegroom left for Kent and France for their honeymoon, and she carried a beautiful bouquet of white flowers. Following the American fashion. she was attended by only one bridemnaid. her eider Mile Evelyn Blight. whom pink creme imparted warm relief to the bridal white.

THE BRITISH MINISTER TO MOROCCO. t All Saints' Church, Ennismore-gardens. the marriage was solemnised of Mr. Gerard Augustus Lowther, C. 8., and Miss Alice Blight. The bridegroom is British Minister to Morocco, the bride is (daughter of Mr. Atherton Blight, of Philadelphia and Newport, U.S.A. The ceremony was conducted by the Bishop of Bangor cousin of the bridegroom), assisted by the Rev. W. R. Inv., vicar of All Saints' Church. Mr. Atherton Blight gave his daughter away, and Mr. Harold Lowther (brother of the bridegroom) was best man.

n Anglo-American carnage of Miss Alice Blight, daughter of Alliance Atherton Blight, of Philadelphia, to Mr. Gerard Lowther will strengthen and bind yet closer the many links existing between the Old World and the New. Ther popular diplomatist's bride- is a pretty American heiress, clever, witty, and agreeable, as all Trans atlantic belles seem to be, and already conversant with the world of which she will now form a part. Mr. Gerard Lowther was one of the late Lord Pauncefote's most trusted lieutenants at Washington, and is now British Minister at Tangier.
Lowther was the second son of William Lowther and his wife Charlotte Alice, daughter of James Parke, 1st Baron Wensleydale. James Lowther, 1st Viscount Ullswater, was his elder brother and Sir Cecil Lowther his younger brother.
Threy had three daughters:
Edith Alice Cecilia, born 1906, married 1st (1933) Baron Jacques Thénard (k.a. 1940) and 2nd (1945) Roger Levêque de Vilmorin, a natural son of Alfonso XIII of Spain, and had issue from the first marriage
Gladys Mabel, born 1908, married 1st (20 December 1933) Capt. Charles Neville Fane (1911-1940, k.a.) and 2nd James Black.
By her first marriage, she was the mother of Gerald Trefusis, 22nd Baron Clinton.
Violet Eleanor (20 September 1910 - 17 January 1911)
During the First World War his American-born wife, Alice, Lady Lowther, was the joint hon. secretary of the American Women's War Relief Fund and chair of the Belgian Prisoners in Germany Relief Fund.
Lowther died in April 1916, aged 58, when the baronetcy became extinct. Lady Lowther died in November 1939.
Chaumet made always a volume model in nickel silver, or « maillechorts » in French, as part of the creation process of tiaras. Made of an alloy to ajust on the wearers head. See above the model which was made for the Lowther tiara, know in the archive.
The whereabout of the diamond tiara is unknown.
