Oben im Bild ein Geschenk an die Herzogin Marina von Kent, einer geborenen Prinzessin von Griechenland und Dänemark, das sie zur Vermählung erhalten hat.

Dieser Schmuck aus Altschliff - Diamanten, gearbeitet als Ohrgehänge in mehreren Kaskaden mit Diamant Tropfen ist aus dem Besitz ihrer Mutter, Helena von Griechenland, einer geborenen Grossfürstin von Russland, die sie wiederum anlässlich ihrer Vermählung mit dem Prinzen von Griechenland und Dänemark von ihrer Mutter erhalten hat.
Es ist möglich, dass Maria Pawlowna, die Grossfürstin Wladimir, die Girandolen für diesen Anlass bei Cartier als antike Stücke, ca 1780 gefertigt, gekauft hat (deshalb auch das vorhandene Etui von Cartier).
Die 8,8cm grossen Girandolen aus Silber und Gold, wurde im November 2000 bei Christies verkauft, jedoch waren die 4 grossen Diamanten gegen Imitationen ausgetauscht.

Princess Helena of Greece was a Grand Duchess of Russia and it is said that the girandoles were once owned by her mother Maria Pavlovna, the Grand Duchess Vladimir, but it’s not proven.

The pair of diamond ear pendants was often worn by Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent. Each terminating in a detachable pear-shaped diamond pendant within old mine-cut diamond surround with similar articulated pendants on either side to the scrolled diamond surmount and detachable cluster top, mounted in silver and gold ca 1780, 8,8cm long.
After the death of the Duchess, these girandoles along with some other jewellery were sold for tax duties. The auction included the diamond bow-brooch seen in the picture above which was another wedding present from her mother.

The girandoles were auctioned again in November 2000 at Christie’s; the four larger diamonds were replaced with imitation diamonds and they were in a red leather Cartier case (£39,950).
