Wedding jewels :
Pair of gold and diamond bangles, late 19th century. Given to Princess
Elizabeth by Queen Mary, a wedding present to Queen Mary in 1893
from the Bombay Presidency, and from Queen Mary to Princess Elizabeth
in 1947.
On the left side the Belle Epoque Diamond and Ruby Ring,
the marquise-shaped diamond within a calibré-cut ruby border
to the split diamond shoulders and reeded hoop, mounted in platinum
and gold, circa 1893. This ring was a wedding gift on 6th July 1893
to H.R.H. The Duchess of York (later H.M. Queen Mary) from her father-in-law,
H.R.H. The Prince of Wales (later H.M. King Edward VII) and was
given to Princess Margaret Countess Snowdon, it was auctioned £57,600
($105,984)
On the right side a sapphire and diamond brooch-clasp, designed
as a cluster, the central cabochon sapphire within a double border
of old-cut diamonds, mounted in silver and gold, brooch fitting
detachable, 2,2cm wide, ca 1890. This was the clasp of a pearl necklace
which was given as a wedding present to the Duchess of York later
Queen Mary when she married the Duke of York. It passed to Princess
Margaret an was auctioned in 2006 for £26,400 ($48,576)
On the left picture on top, the young Mary wore some of her other
wedding gifts, a double heart brooch from her bridgegroom and and
winged brooch of the Portlands.
