Victoria Melita Grossherzogin von Hessen| Hessen Königlicher Schmuck Victoria Melita von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha (1876 -1936) war das dritte Kind des Prinzen von Großbritannien und Irland, Herzogs von Edinburgh und Herzogs von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha Alfred, und Enkelin der englischen Königin Viktoria. Victoria heiratete 1894 ihren Cousin väterlicherseits, den Großherzog von Hessen und bei Rhein, Ernst Ludwig auf hartnäckige Vermittlung durch ihre Großmutter. Es war eine feine, glänzende Hochzeit, erzählte Kaiserin Friedrich ihrer Tochter: "Ducky sah vornehm und liebreizend aus. Sie trug ein weißes, einfarbiges Kleid aus Seide, mit wenig Verzierung und Tante Alice´s Hochzeit Schleier, dazu ein leichtes, filigranes Diadem mit Smaragden, dahinter war eine Rispe mit Orangen Blüten befestigt."Duff, Hessian Tapestry Die Fürstenhochzeit fand im Kreise des Europäischen Hochadels in Coburg statt, oben links die Einladungen und ein Hochzeitsbild. Unter anderem waren Königin Viktoria von England, der Deutsche Kaiser Wilhelm II. und der spätere Zar Nikolaus II. von Russland Gäste*. Die Zeitungen in London berichteten über die Hochzeitsgeschenke, die Victoria Melita erhielt, z. B. von ihren Eltern: eine Parure mit einem Smaragd und Diamant Diadem ein Halsband aus Perlen und Smaragden und ein Armband mit grossen Diamanten, dazu ein Diamantherz verziert mit Türkisen (vom Herzog und von der Herzogin von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha). Illustrated London News of April 28, 1895 (pages 522-523) Eine andere Berichterstattung, "Der Brautvater und ihre Mutter schenkten ihr: eine Halskette aus Perlen und Smaragden, ein Diamantarmband, einen großen Anhänger mit Diamanten und Saphiren besetzt, und ein Paar Diamantohrringe aus sehr exquisiten, feinen Steinen.    Zusätzlich zu diesem, überreichte der Herzog seiner Tocher ein Armband mit einem großen Smaragd und ein Diamant Türkis Herz und die Herzogin schenkte noch ein Diadem aus Diamanten und Smaragd.." The Graphic Royal Wedding Number, April 28, 1894, page 481 Zusammenfassend, kann man sagen, dass Ducky, das oben abgebildete Diadem mit Diamanten und Smaragden, das sie bereits am Hochzeitstag trug, entweder als gemeinsames Geschenk ihren Eltern oder als Geschenk von ihrer Mutter alleine, erhalten hat. Die zerrüttete Ehe wurde 1901 geschieden, was damals einen Skandal auslöste. 1905 erfolgte in Tegernsee unter strenger Geheimhaltung nach russisch-orthodoxem Ritus Victorias, die sich jetzt Victoria Feodorowna (Großfürstin Kyrill ) nennend, zweite Heirat mit ihrem Cousin mütterlicherseits, dem russischen Großfürsten Kyrill Aleksandrovich Romanow, ihrer grossen Liebe statt. Weitere Hochzeitsgeschenke an Schmuck und Juwelen >> **** Princess Victoria Melita of Edinburgh and Saxe-Coburg-Gotha Emeralds Hessen| Royal Wedding Gift Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Victoria Melita) (1876 - 1936) was a member of the British Royal Family, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria. Victoria held the titles of Grand Duchess of Hesse (1894-1901), and Grand Duchess Viktoria Feodorovna of Russia (1906-1917). As a grandchild of the British monarch, she was styled Her Royal Highness Princess Victoria of Edinburgh. To her family she was called Ducky. At the time of her birth she was 10th in the line of succession to the British throne. Queen Victoria observed that Victoria had good relations with her cousin, Prince Ernst Ludwig of Hesse, the heir to grand ducal throne of Hesse and eldest son of Her Royal Highness Princess Alice, Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine, Queen Victoria's second eldest daughter. Queen Victoria was very keen for her two grandchildren to marry. Victoria's mother was also keen for the marriage, as her own mother was born a Princess of Hesse. She had a plain white silk gown with hardly any trimming, and Aunt Alice´s wedding veil, a light slender diadem of emeralds with a sprig of orange blossom stuck in behind." Duff, Hessian Tapestry Information concerning Ducky's wedding presents from her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Coburg, come from contemporary sources: The Illustrated London News of April 28, 1895 (pages 522-523) wrote that Princess Victoria Melita received: a parure consisting of an emerald and diamond tiara a necklace of pearls and emeralds, and a bracelet of large diamonds, along with a diamond heart studded with turquoises (from the Duke and Duchess of Coburg). A variation in this report comes from The Graphic Royal Wedding Number, April 28, 1894, page 481 which describes the gifts from her parents in the following words "The bride's father and mother presented her with a necklace of pearls and emeralds, a diamond bracelet, a large pendant of diamonds and sapphires, and a pair of diamond earrings set with very fine stones.    In addition to this, the Duke presented his daughter with a bracelet set with a large emerald and a diamond and turquoise heart, and the Duchess also gave her a diadem of diamonds and emeralds." The conclusion that can be drawn is that Ducky did receive a tiara of emeralds and diamonds, either as a joint gift from her parents or as a gift from her mother alone. It would seem highly probable that Ducky would have worn the tiara which was the wedding gift from her parent(s), see pictures above. Victoria was now titled The Grand Duchess of Hesse. Victoria and Ernst's marriage was an unhappy affair. The marriage finally ended and the Supreme Court of Hesse dissolved the marriage on December 21, 1901. The divorce of the reigning Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Hesse caused scandal in the royal circles of Europe. As Grand Duchess Kyril, Ducky also wore the emerald tiara as seen in the small picture above. Its whereabouts is unknown; in later years she owned also an impressively large emerald parure, Probably she broke up this jewel to create this parure.
