Die Halsbandaffäre
Marie Antoinette, die junge Erzherzogin aus Österreich, wird mit 15 Jahren die Gemahlin des späteren Ludwig XVI. und mit 19 Jahren Königin von Frankreich. Die leichtsinnige und lebenslustige Wienerin spielte eine zwielichtige Rolle in der französischen Politik. Das tragische Schicksal der jungen Frau, die schließlich zum Spielball politischer Mächte wurde und 1793 den Tod auf dem Schafott fand.
Ein Diamantencollier im Wert von umgerechnet fünf Millionen Euro wird zum corpus delicti und öffentlichen Skandal. Über einen ahnungslosen Mittelsmann vereinbaren Betrüger im Namen Marie Antoinettes den Kauf des mit 156 Diamanten besetzten Colliers. Angeblich besiegelt die Unterschrift der Königin den Kaufvertrag. Der Schriftzug "Marie Antoinette de France" ist jedoch eine Fälschung. Der betrügerische Handel im Namen der nichts ahnenden Königin ist dennoch perfekt. Als der Schwindel auffliegt, ist es längst zu spät. Aus einer Gaunerkomödie ist die Halsbandaffäre geworden - und - statt an die Täter ergeht die Schuldzuweisung an die Königin. Wie nie zuvor steht Marie Antoinette jetzt am Pranger des öffentlichen Hasses und Hohngelächters.

Zinaida was admired in society for her taste and elegance. Her palace interiors were laid out by the best decorators following her personal direction regarding overall style. The atmosphere of her apartments had more than a tinge of old Muscovy; bowls filled with enormous jewels for the simple pleasure of running one's fingers through added to the palatable sensuality of Zinaida's rooms. Infos about the famous necklace. The necklace was 2800 carats. First was a choker of seventeen diamonds, five to eight carats each; from that hung a three-wreathed festoon and pendants; then came the necklace proper, a double row of diamonds cumulating in an eleven-carat stone, finally, hanging from the necklace four knotted tassel. It cost 1,600,000 lives. Perhaps in today's currency, this is the equivalent of $100 million. The jeweller Charles Bohmer had the beautiful necklace made for Madame du Barry. But Louis XV died, du Barry was banished from court, and Bohmer placed his hopes on the new Queen to purchase the necklace. She modelled it before her ladies, but would not purchase it or permit Louis to buy it as a gift for her. "Better to buy a new ship of the line (battleship or aircraft carrier equivalent) than to spend such a sum on a necklace, regardless of how beautiful ..." she said.
