The Diamond brooch, made in the late 19th century is designed as a crescent moon, set with cushion-shaped, circular-cut and rose diamonds, was formerly in the collection of Princess Isabella Hedwig Franziska Natalie of Croÿ 1856 – 1931.
The daughter of Rudolf, Duke of Croÿ, and his wife, Princess Natalie of Ligne married Archduke Friedrich, Duke of Teschen on 8 October 1878. They had eight daughters and one son, Archduchess Marie Anna was her 2nd daughter.
Above in the picture Archduchess Isabella of Austria is in an imperial Austria Hungary courtgown, with an array of her amazing jewels. We see the crescent diamond brooch on the left.
The diamonds estimated to weigh a total of approximately 9.00 - 11.00 carats, on average l-J colour, Sl-l clarity, included, as gauged and graded in the mount.
Signs of age and wear to the metal, with evidence of tarnish to the reverse. Clasp secure, sliding safety catch. Brooch weight approximately 11 grams.
As well the fringe diamond tiara, seven pear-shaped large pearls as pendants on her diamond rivieres.
Some of her best jewels were later owned by Archduchess Marie Anne of Austria, Princess Elie de Bourbon Parme, as this brooch which is in her inventory.
