‘The Andean Cross’, carved from one piece of emerald, one of a kind gem - are presented to Princess Beatrice, from Queen Victoria.

The little child Beatrice cried a few times during the ceremony. She lay in the arms of her exalted godmother, the Infanta Maria Teresa, and was given the names Beatrice Isabel, Maria Teresa, Federica, Cristina, Alfonsa and Bienvenida in the baptismal font, almost at the start of the religious ceremony the battery of the Sitio regiment set up in Las Peñizas defeated the fifteen salvos of order.
At about half past one the ceremony was over, and the official and Palatine elements went to the upper rooms of the castle, the other guests to the dining room on the ground floor, where a sumptuous lunch was served. On the occasion of the baptism, the King gave Queen Victoria a splendid diamond necklace, Archduke Frederick husband of Archduchess Isabella of Croy, brother of Marie Christine also presented to the Queen a splendid diamond necklace and Princess von Battenberg gave Infantin Beatrice a cross made of emeralds, the Andean Emerald Cross, see the picture above.
When the ceremony was over, the King sent an expressive telegram to Archduchess Elisabeth, informing her that the ceremony was over and thanking her for agreeing to sponsor his daughter. Gegen halb zwei Uhr war die Zeremonie zu Ende, und die offiziellen und pfälzischen Elemente begaben sich in die oberen Räume des Schlosses, die anderen Gäste in den Speisesaal im Erdgeschoss, wo ein prächtiges Mittagessen serviert wurde. Auf der Wache mit dem König war der Marquis de la Romana, und mit Königin Cristina der Herzog von Gor.
Der König schenkte der Königin Victoire anlässlich der Taufe eine prächtige Brillantkette, der Erzherzog Friedrich der Königin ebenfalls eine prächtige Brillantschnur und die Prinzessin von Battenberg der Iufantin Beatrice ein Kreuz aus Smaragden;
Nach Beendigung der Zeremonie schickte der König ein ausdrucksstarkes Telegramm an die Erzherzogin Elisabeth, in dem er sie über das Ende der Zeremonie informierte und ihr dafür dankte, dass sie sich bereit erklärt hatte, die Patenschaft für seine Tochter zu übernehmen. Außerdem richtete er, wie es üblich ist, ein weiteres Telegramm an Seine Heiligkeit, in dem er um seinen Schutz für die kleine Tochter bat, indem er sich mit dem König in Verbindung setzte.*-
