Mr Robert Hudson married his 2nd wife in 1932, Beatrice Sabina Gaudengio, daughter of Laurenzo Gaudengio. Beatrice Sabina Hudson subsequently moved to live in Monaco at the Villa Paloma on the Bvd Des Jardins Exotiques. Beatrice Sabina Hudson wore the famous emerald necklace from Grand Duchess Stephanie of Baden - the Napoleonic Emeralds with emerald pendants and the matching pair of diamond and emerald earrings.

Mrs Robert W Hudson wear also a large emerald brooch with an round cabochon and cabochon emerald pendant, two brooches as clip in cluster form with diamond and emeralds and a large emerald and diamond bracelet on each side of her arms. .

 

 

Nothing is known about the way of the Famous Emeralds to the Hudson family.

Hudson was created Viscount Hudson in 1952.CH, PC 1886 – 1957 was a British Conservative Party politician who held a number of ministerial posts during World War II.

 

He was the eldest son of Robert William Hudson who had inherited the substantial family soap business and sold it, and Gerda Frances Marion Bushell. Hudson was educated at Eton College and Magdalen College, Oxford. He entered the Diplomatic Service in 1911, becoming an attaché and First Secretary before entering politics.

He had a particular interest in farming and was a member of the council of the Royal Agricultural Society.

Hudson was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Whitehaven in 1924 and served there until losing in 1929. In 1931 he was returned for Southport. He served in several ministerial posts, becoming a Privy Counsellor in 1938. From 1937 to 1940, Hudson served as Secretary for Overseas Trade.

In April 1940, Hudson was briefly appointed the Minister of Shipping, before on 14 May becoming Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, in the Churchill war ministry, a post he would hold until the 1945 election. In the opinion of Edward Turnour, 6th Earl Winterton, Hudson "was by far the best of Ministers of Agriculture in either war...he was determined to see that farmers and landowners alike utilised every acre of soil to help keep the nation from starvation".

Villa Sauber is one of the last "Belle Époque" style villas in Monaco. At the beginning of the 20th century, it belonged to the Blanc family, who played an important role in the development of the Société des Bains de Mer de Monaco and the Casino de Monte-Carlo. In 1904, the English painter Robert Sauber bought Edmond Blanc's villa and set up his studio there. In 1914 the villa was sold and resold before returning to the painter in 1925. In the early 1930s, Sauber bequeathed the villa to the Relief Fund of the Common Police Courts in London. In 1952 Nora Mac Caw became the owner and in 1957 sold it to the Société immobilière de avenue Princesse Grace.

The Sauber villa and its garden were bought by the Société immobilière domaniale de Monaco in 1957. It is a space dedicated to temporary exhibitions of contemporary art.


In 1913 the American Edward N. Dickerson built this villa and its garden. Sold in 1920, the mansion was sold to Robbrt W. Hudson in 1925. After his marriage to Beatrice Sabina Gaudengio in 1932, the property was renamed "Villa Paloma". Damaged during World War II, the villa was sold to Joseph Fissore, who had the gardens restored. In 1993 a Monegasque company bought the villa.

The villa was bought by the Monegasque State in 1995 and dedicated to the new National Museum in 2008. It has been turned into a museum.
