Diamant Diadem der Mona Fitzalan-Howard, Baroness Beaumont

Lady Beaumont posiert im vollen Ornat einer englischen Adeligen - die Robe wird in der Regel nur bei Krönungen getragen und gehörte ihr Ur-Großmutter. Das Bild ist aus dem Jahr 1947, aufgenommen im Schloß der Beaumonts. Sie trägt den Schmuck der Familie Beaumont, die Tiara im viktorianischen Stil machte später Geschichte, denn sie wurde bei der Festnahme 1986 von Imelda Marcos auf Hawaii beschlagnahmt als sie ihre sagenhafte Schmucksammlung ausser Landes bringen wollte.

Mona war der ältere von zwei Töchtern Miles Stapleton, 10. Baron Beaumont und seiner Frau Mary. Als sich ihr Vater versehentlich im Jahre 1895 tötete, ging sein Titel geteilt auf Mona und ihre jüngere Schwester über. Ein Jahr später, entschied Queen Victoria zu Gunsten Mona's, sie wurde die 11. Baroness Beaumont.

Am 5. September 1914, heiratete sie den 3. Baron Howard of Glossop. Sie und ihr Mann waren eine der wenigen Paare, die beide ihren eigenen Titel nach Geburtsrecht hatten.

Nach ihrem Tod mit 77 Jahren, im Jahr 1971, ging ihr Eigentum an ihren ältesten Sohn Miles, der auch das Herzogtum Norfolk vom Cousin seines Vaters 1975 erbte, den Mädchennamen seiner Mutter fügte er seinem Namen zu.

1980 ist das Diadem als Brautschmuck von Vanessa Hubbard genutzt worden, als sie David Llewellyn heiratete.

Der Schmuck und die Juwelen sollen nun 2010 entweder versteigert oder ausgestellt werden. Die Regierung der Phillippinen will auch beweisen dass der Schmuck noch vorhanden ist. Nach letztem Stand der Dinge, sind die Gutachter von Sotheby´s und Christie´s unverrichteter Dinge wieder abgeflogen. Der jetztige Präsident will die Entscheidung seinem Nachfolger, nach den Wahlen, überlassen.

Als Hersteller des Diadems wird die Firma Catchpole & Williams in London genannt, der Schmuck ist wohl mit und ohne Perlen zu tragen, evtl sind noch andere Varianten möglich.

Lady Beaumont is posing in the full regalia of a peeress in her own right wearing the robes normally worn only at Coronations, which belonged to her great-grandmother.

Mona was the elder of two daughters of Miles Stapleton, 10th Baron Beaumont and his wife, Mary. When her father accidentally shot and killed himself in 1895, his title became abeyant between Mona and her younger sister. Almost a year later, Queen Victoria terminated the abeyance in the two-year-old's favour and Mona became the 11th Baroness Beaumont.

On 5 September 1914, she married the 3rd Baron Howard of Glossop (thus also becoming Baroness Howard of Glossop). She and her husband were one of the few couples to both hold titles in their own right.
On her death in 1971 at the age of 77, her title passed to her eldest son, Miles, who inherited the dukedom of Norfolk from his father's cousin in 1975 and who added his mother's maiden name to his own.

The picture above was taken in 1947, recorded in the castle of the family. She wears the jewellery of the Beaumont family. The tiara, made by Catchpole & Williams, London, was in the Victorian style and probably wearable in different versions and without the pearls.

In 1980 Vanessa Hubbard married David Llewellyn and the tiara was last seen at this wedding (picture at right).

At some point, the tiara was sold and purchased by Imelda Marcos, the former first lady of the Philippines. When she fled the country in 1986, her jewellery collection was seized by the Philippine government.
In May 2010, the scheduled appraisals of the collection by experts from Sotheby's and Christie's auction houses were cancelled by the orders of President Arroyo due to "time constraints". The appraisals were to have been the first step in the auctioning of the jewellery collection by the state.
