Diese Türkis Diamant - Ohrringe sollen einmal der Zarin Katharina
der Grossen gehört haben, mit Sicherheit waren sie später
im Besitz der Grossfürstin Vladimir, eine der reichsten Frauen
Rußlands, mit einem enormen Appetit auf schönen Schmuck.
Ihre Sammlung edelster Juwelen war legendär.
Oben im Bild anlässlich der Krönung von Zar Nikolaus II.
mit ihrer Schwägerin Anastasia Mikhailovna Grossfürstin
von Rußland, Großherzogin von Mecklenburg, in Hofgala
mit dem traditionellen Kokoschnik und unzähligen Perlensträngen
dekoriert.
Später kamen die Ohrringe in den Besitz von Prinzessin Olga von
Jugoslawien, der Enkelin von Großfürstin Vladimir. Ihre
Nachkommen ließen die dreiteiligen Ohrringe mit Türkis
Cabochons und grosszügiger Diamantkarmoisierung mit Schleifen
als Zwischenteil in Gold und Silber gearbeitet, aus dem 18. Jahrhundert,
in Genf 1998 für 40.250 CHF versteigern.
Der Pendeloque-Stil des späten Rokoko ist in seiner immer wieder
gleichen Gliederung wirklich genial. Aber bei genau dieser Ausführung
mit den vier kleinen Steinen im oberen Teil als Gegengewicht zu dem
großen Stein im Anhänger wirkt der große Schmuck
wirklich elegant und verspielt. Vor Allem auch durch die türkise
Farbgebung passt er mit seinem Pastell genau in diese Zeit.
Leider ist kein Bild der Prinzessin mit den Ohrringen erhalten, auch
von der Zarin ist kein Gemälde mit exakt diesem Türkis -
Ohrschmuck bekannt.
Katharina die Große, eine geborene Prinzessin von Anhalt-Zerbst,
zweifellos eine der großen Frauen der Weltgeschichte, war eine begeisterte
Sammlerin. 32,000 gravierte Edelsteine, aber auch Diamanten, wie den
Orloff/Orlov, den Potemkin den sie ihrem Liebhaber schenkte mit 53
Karat und jede Art von Perlen, Juwelen, Schmuck, antike Skulpturen
und andere Kunstwerke wurden von ihr mit grossem Eifer gesammelt.

A pair of turquoise and diamond pendent earrings, Russian, late
18th/early 19th century, each decorated with a turquoise cabochon
drop within a frame of graduated cushion-shaped diamonds, surmounted
by a bow set with old-mine diamonds, and
a cushion-shaped stone framed by alternating old-mine diamonds and
turquoise cabochons, mounted in silver and gold.
It was said that they onced owened by Catherine II. Later in the
possession of Grand Duchess Vladimir of Russia and given to ther granddaughter
Olga Princess of Yugoslavia. They were sold by direct descent in 1998
in Geneve for 40,250 CHF.
Above the Grand Duchess in court dress for the coronation of Nikolai
II in 1896, sitting with her sister-in-law Anastasia Mikhailovna of
Mecklenburg-Schwerin (born a grand duchess of Russia). Propably she
gave the earrings to her daughter Princess Elena of Greece, or it
was a direct gift to her granddaughter Princess Olga of Yugoslavia.
Catherine acquired magnificent jewelry. The lavish crown she commissioned
for her coronation was used by all of her successors. It was gifted
with jewels by political allies as well as lovers.
Her 500 ladies-in-waiting were dressed with equal style and elaborateness,
their jewels by Lazarev, the court jeweler at St. Petersburg as well
as leading Russian craftsmen. Catherine's later jewels reflect the
shift to greater simplicity in her own taste, as she came under the
intellectual influence of French philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau.
Toward the end of her reign, she redesigned the royal residences in
Neoclassical style, again employing Italian architects.But also sho
was one of the greatest collectors of all time. 32,000 engraved gems,
as well as diamonds like the orloff and potemkin, pearls , jewels,
antique sculptures and numerous other works of applied art.
