Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon received this jewel from The Citizens of London as wedding gifts.
The pear and diamond sautoir with five rows of pearls mounted on fine platinum wire with two flexible diamond side-pieces, and diamond triangular endpiece, to which is attached a large pearl drop pictured above.
The necklace was not often seen in public, but the Duchess wore the pearl drop on a long pearl chain, regulary, it was supplied by Carrington and Company.
The first of the parties which the King and Queen have arranged to hold in celebration of the Royal Wedding was held at Buckingham Palace last evening. Another will be held to-morrow afternoon.
The guests last night numbered about six hundred. In the State Rooms, on the first floor, they were received by the King and Queen, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore, and other members of the bride’s and bridegroom’s families. The band of the Irish Guards played during the evening, and refreshments were served at buffet tables in the State Dining Room and ancient rooms.
The Royal party included, in addition to the bride and bridegroom: -
Princess Mary, Viscountess Lascelles, and Viscount Lascelles, the Princess Royal and Princess Maud, Princess Christian, Princess Helena Victoria and Princess Marie Louise, Princess Louise (Duchess of Argyll), Captain and Lady Patricia Ramsay, Princess Alice and the Earl of Athlone, Lady Louis Mountbatten, the Marquess and Marchioness of Cambridge, Lady Mary Cambridge, the Marquess and Marchioness of Carisbrooke, the Marquess of Milford Haven, the Earl and Countess of Eltham, Prince Paul of Serbia, Prince and Princess Andrew of Greece, and Prince Dimitri.
