Lady Irene Denison was the only daughter of the second Earl of Londesborough.
She married the son of Princess Beatrice, the Marquess of Carisbrooke
on 19 July 1917.
This ruby and diamond coronet pattern head ornament consisting of
14 lozenge-shaped clusters & 13 strawberry leaves with ruby and
diamond band was part of a suite
with necklace, bracelet, brooch and earrings and was a
present from Queen Victoria of Great Britain, to her daughter Princess
Beatrice on her marriage 23 July 1885, when she married Prince Henry
of Battenberg.
From Princess Beatrice, it passed to her son the Marquess of Carisbrooke
and was worn by his wife in the portraits above.
It was she who took it to Cartier in 1933 to have the rubies removed.
Its present whereabouts are unknown.
