We see above the the Duchess after the birth of Prince Georg Wilhelm of Hanover, the jewel is left to Princes Georg Wilhelm of Hanover. His wife Princess Sophie wore it in the year 1964 at Athens. The brooch was made in 1910, the sketch of the brooch is from the Köchert Archive.
This brooch was not the wedding gift of the King and Queen of England - probably it was the pendant which she wore on this picture on a chain - a diamond brooch with tassel!
The Guelph riches - and it was then that he entrusted the firm with the task of inspecting his treasures and utting them in order. Some of the older pieces of jewellery he exchanged for new ones.
The re-establishment of friendlich relation between the Prussian dynasties cleared the way for the marriage of the Duke of Cumberland's son to Victoria Louise, the daughter of the German Emperor.
The Emperor of Austria and the bride's father-in-law each ordered sizeable brooches, one with two large pendants from Köchert for the wedding, later for the christening of the cuples first child.
When Victoria Louise died there was some confusione about the exact orgin of these pieces of jewellery and it was only the reticulously detailed descriptions in the Köchert records that made it possibel to sort the jewels.
The imperial ledger noted the wedding and christening gifts: Princess Victoria Louise of Germany Bandeau 18000 crowns. For the Princess of Prussia a Diamond Corsage 50 000 crowns and for the Duchess Victoria Louise of Brunswick-Lüneburg a Diamond corsage 16 000 crowns.
The jewel about which there was the greatest certaintly turned out to be a large pectoral ornament ordered by the Duke of Cumberland.
In 1984, its value was estimated at 600.000 German marks. I believe it's to Corsage brooch above.
