The splendid marrige between the Kaiser`s daughter and the heir of the Hanover family brought about the reconciliation between the Hohenzollerns and the Hanovers and was the reason for the devolution to Prince Ernst Auguts of the Duchy of Brunswick which, since the death of its last duke in 1884 had been in Prussian hands and entrusted to various regents appointed by th German emperor. The wedding of guelph Prince Ernst August and Princess Victoria Luise
(only daughter of the Kaiser) was also the last great gathering of European
sovereigns (many descended from Queen Victoria and King Christian IX
of Denmark) before the outbreak of the First World War. In addition
to the German Emperor and Empress and the Duke and Duchess of Cumberland,
King George V and Queen Mary of Great Britain, Tsar Nicholas II and
Empress Alexandra Feodrovna of Russia attended. It was the last time
that the three royal cousins, William, Nicholas and George met This magnificent diamond brooch with two large pendants was a gift from the Austrian Emperor to Princess Victoria Luise of Prussia on the occasion of her marriage to the future Duke of Brunswick Lüneburg. Above
you can see the design by Köchert, Vienna and then the executed jewel,
next to it a photograph of the Duchess with the brooch after her
wedding. This set was sold by her descendants in 1984 for DM 600,000.00
The royal wedding gifts | Princess Viktoria Luise of Prussia Duchess of Brunswick Lüneburg Hannover
From the Duchess's book( "A Life as the Emperor's Daughter" ..), she describes her wedding gifts: "My father's gift to me was a tiara and necklace of pearls, my mother's a tiara of diamonds. The English royal couple presented a massive gold
goblet, me a brooch set in diamonds with a diamond tassel pendant. Ernst August a complete set of jewellery. I received an emerald brooch from Queen Mother Alexandra of England, and the Tsar gave me a necklace of aquamarines and diamonds.
I received one from the old Baroness Rothschild magnificent fan with my initials, a powerful piece of clear rock crystal from the Chicago industrialist Vincent Armor. The city of Berlin presented a yellow Tabriz as a gift. A deputation from the Duchy of Brunswick presented a piece of jewelery that a commission specially formed to select the wedding gift had chosen for me: a tiara from the former imperial French family jewelery that Empress Josephine had once worn..... Victoria Luise was born on September 13, 1892 in the Marble Palace in Potsdam (near Berlin), the youngest child of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The British Queen Victoria and the Prussian Queen Luise gave their names to the Emperor's only daughter. Victoria Luise grew up with six brothers. On May 24, 1913, Victoria Luise married Prince Ernst August of Hanover in the Berlin Palace. The marriage meant the reconciliation between Guelphs and Hohenzollerns. The
crowned heads of all European royal houses, including the Russian Tsar
Nicholas II and the English King George V, gathered for the last time
before the outbreak of the First World War at the glamorous wedding,
which took place in the Berlin Palace. The English king was among the
guests George V and the Russian Tsar Nicholas II. That was the last
peaceful meeting of the 3 cousins Wilhelm, George and Nicholas. The Emperor's daughter died on December 11, 1980 at the age of 88 in Braunschweig and is buried in the mausoleum of the kings of Hanover in Hanover-Herrenhausen alongside her husband, who died in 1953
