Opale der Königin Alexandra von England
Ein Schmuck - Set bestehend aus ovalen länglichen Opalen als Anhänger
in Sternform mit passenden runden Broschen aus rundgeschliffenen Opalen
und den entsprechenden Ohrringen aus Gold und Silber ein Geschenk von
Queen Victoria an die Prinzessin Alexandra.
Der Prinzgemahl Albert war von Opalen fasziniert, er schenkte Königin
Victoria ein Set mit Diamanten. Zur Hochzeit von Victoria ihrer ältesten
Tochter mit dem Thronfolger von Preussen 1858 schenkte das Paar eine
Garnitur mit Opalen und Diamanten. Nach dem Tod des Prinzen 1861 behielt
Victoria diese Tradition bei und überreicht Prinzessin Alexandra
von Dänemark auch im Namen ihres Verstorbenen diese kleine Garnitur.
Die Prinzessin glaubte an die altmodische Überlieferung, dass Opale
Unglück bringen und trug das Opal-Set in dieser Zusammenstellung
wohl nie.
Unten, ein oval geformter auffälliger Diamantanhänger,von
Messrs. Trapnell aus Bristol, beschrieben als ein Holbein-Juwel.
In der Mitte mit einem grösseren Saphir in Kissenform, mit beweglicher
kostbarerer Tropfenperle gehalten von einer mit Diamanten besetzten
Kapsel,ist ebenfalls ein Geschenk der "Ladies of Bristol".
Dieser Anhänger wurde von ihr an das Perlencollier bzw an ein Diamanthalsband
als Eclavage angehängt.
Links am Rand, ein weiterer ovaler Anhänger aus Diamanten mit einem
Kreuz aus Saphiren in der Mitte, unterhalb ein Diamant und ein angehängte
Tropfenperle, oben ein Diamant verdeckt die Schlaufe, ist das Hochzeitsgeschenk
von Prinz Albert, Prinzessin Helena, Prinzessin Louise, Prinz Arthur,
Prinz Leopold und Prinzessin Beatrix, die Geschwister und deren Ehepartner,
des Bräutigams. Gefertigt von Garrard and Co.
Queen Alexandra's Opals
The parure of opals and diamonds was a wedding gift of Her Majesty
in the name of HRH the Prince Consort and the Queen to Princess Alexandra.
It consisted of three brooches, a pair of earrings, a cross and a bracelet.
The Prince Consort drew the designs for the jewels which were executed
by Garrard and Co. Princess Alexandra wore the opal and diamond bracelet
from this parure on her wedding day.
Prince Albert was very fond of opals, giving his wife an opal and diamond
parure which included the Oriental Circlet tiara, which had its opals
replaced with rubies under Queen Alexandra’s instructions. The
Prince of Wales gave a suite of opal-set jewellery to his eldest sister,
Victoria, when she married the Crown Prince of Prussia in 1858.
Upon her marriage in 1862, Princess Alice received an opal and diamond
suite from her late father consisting of a cross, two brooches and a
pair of earrings which were made by Garrard and Co., which foreshadowed
that given to Princess Alexandra.

Diamond and Sapphire Pendants
The Princess received two beautiful diamond and sapphire pendants.
The pendant on the left is of diamonds with five sapphires set in the
form of a cross with a pendant pearl suspended presented by TRH Prince
Alfred, Princess Helena, Princess Louise, Prince Arthur, Prince Leopold
and Princess Beatrice. It was made by Garrard and Co.
In the foreground is the pendant which was presented by the Ladies
of Bristol. It could also be used as a brooch and was described
as a “Holbein jewel”.
“The centre was formed of a large sapphire of great value, set
in a mass of large brilliants, tapering on the lower side of the ornament
to a fine point, from which depended a large pear-shaped pearl of exquisite
shape and colour.” It was presented in a very ornate casket
which was the work of Messrs. Trapnell of Bristol.
Holbein jewel, Holbeinesque: that style was/is a reimagining
of renaissance designs, type of pendant as "typically", consisting
a central gemstone, surrounded by a champleve enamel border set with
diamonds and supporting a similarly set and decorated losenge shaped
drop".
